what we are working with … the hallway, stairs & landing, connecting all the spaces

Front door

The original hallway

We moved into an Victorian Terrace just before Christmas 2019, giving ourselves a couple of months before changing and improving.

Here you can see the fabulous spacious, tall entrance with white walls, a blank canvas! The old front door, the ill fitting laminate flooring, old radiator cover, existing coat hooks and our mirror …

Again the superb, spacious tall ceilings, staircase and banister in dire need of updating with paint and a runner.

The internal doors are a mish mash of cheap pine, and one great, original fluted glass door leading to the kitchen.

The plan is the extend the small storage space to the right, up to the ceiling. Carpet the landing area, paint and carpet the stairs and bannister. Satin glass doors, upstairs, to maximise light, while retaining privacy, the bedroom doors will open normally, while the bathroom and toilet need to be sliding, because the space is soooooo tiny, that is a whole other project.

Update… bringing some light to a dark corner. I’ve added the last image to show the contrast between what we have achieved so far!
We took out the old rickety cupboard, stripped the banisters and stairs. The walls and ceiling were painted using graphenstone paint I sourced the linen cupboard, and the 3 pendant lights which are all replicas of the old Parisian holophane street lights. It gives me so much pleasure, when, at night I see the lighting and shadows in the joining corner section. Still some way to go!
